Festival Noroeste Estrella Galicia:

A unique event celebrating It’s 32nd edition in 2018

Just like previous years, A Coruña will be transformed this August to host the latest edition of the Festival Noroeste Estrella Galicia. The 2018 edition of the festival will be held from 7 to 12 August and will feature more than 80 bands and artists who will fill every corner of the city with the most eclectic range of music; from pop, rock and indie to heavy metal, avant-garde, fado, hip hop, fusion, folk, punk, noise and singer-songwriters. The line-up for the 32nd edition of the festival, which remains loyal to the contemporary roots of the festival and its commitment to the quality and singularity of all performers, includes names like Belle and Sebastian, The Pretenders, Temples, Viva Suecia, Ana Curra, Ángel Stanich, BFlecha, Capsula, Christina Rosenvinge, Escuchando Elefantes, James Holden & The Animal Spirits, La Plata, Laetitia Sadier Source Ensemble, Marem Ladson, Maria Arnal i Marcel Bagés, Maria del Mar Bonet, Mordem, Morgan, Nathy Peluso, Neneh Cherry, The Limboos and ZA!, among many more.

The Festival Noroeste Estrella Galicia is a unique musical event in Spain, offering an attractive programme of free, open-air concerts attracting an average audience of 60,000 people every year. Considered one of the best summer music events in the north-west of the Iberian Peninsula, the Noroeste is organised by A Coruña City Council with the collaboration of Estrella Galicia. Once again this year, the Noroeste Estrella Galicia has shown its commitment to local and Galician bands and attempts to reflect a modern and fundamentally musical city. Through the festival, A Coruña will open up to new paths, new ways of doing things and new way of looking at things; all part of its appeal as a destination for experiential, contemporary and unique tourism.

Faithful to the philosophy that has characterised the festival in recent years, the Noroeste Estrella Galicia will maintain its urban style for 2018 with a total of 14 iconic stages across the city. In 2018, the 32nd edition of the Noroeste Estrella Galicia will once again offer programme cycles for all audiences at different times of day and night, including matinée sessions (to broaden the experience of the audience by day too, with bands from the Galician and domestic scene) and the Noroeste Selection Cycle (with exclusive live performances in the city’s theatres). Hijos de Rivera’s Mercado de la Cosecha social enterprise centre will once again host a pop-rock pilgrimage on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 August with an event that combines the best live performers from the domestic indie scene and a range of family-friendly activities and the opportunity to discover first-hand the rural Galician initiatives supported by the centre.

The City Council of A Coruña and Estrella Galicia continue their collaboration, after signing an institutional agreement in 2013 in relation to the cultural programme on offer in the city, the centrepiece of which is the Noroeste festival. What’s more, the festival is also supported by Radio 3, Cuac FM and Desconcierto Cultural.
